Double Acting Doors

Dual Acting Doors

What are Dual Acting Doors?

Dual acting doors are also known as double-swing doors, double acting doors, swing doors and traffic doors. These types of traffic doors are usually found in restaurant kitchens, shipping facilities, loading docks, and grocery stores. Dual acting doors don’t have door handles. Door handles are not present since the purpose of these doors is to simplify two-way movement as they swing in and out. They provide privacy and separation between rooms or spaces. These traffic doors can be bought in pairs or as a single door depending on needs and restrictions.

Common Uses

Dual acting doors are also referred to as impact doors or bump doors. This is so because traffic such as forklifts or trolleys can drive through them and get them to open by simply “bumping” into them. This improves work efficiency because the door will automatically close after such traffic has passed through. Impact base plates, bumper strips, spring bumpers or jamb guards are recommended to prevent damage to the doors from high-traffic use.

Grocery stores, shipping and receiving areas, restaurant kitchens, warehouses and storage facilities usually have “high traffic”. Hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, correctional and government facilities will also benefit from these doors since they require a door to open in both directions in case of emergencies.

We have different types of traffic doors and provide them in different styles. Our pro tuff is a wood core door with a steel structured framing around the edges. The door is sprayed with an elastomeric coating to protect the wood and steel, make it extremely easy to clean and keep sanitary, and provide a color that will never fade over the lifespan of the door. Not only is the door one of the most aesthetically pleasing options on the market, but it is the best for functionality as well.
