What is a dual swing door?

A Dual Swing Door is a specialized door that swings in both directions. Dual Swing Doors are also commonly referred to as double acting doors, impact doors, traffic doors, bump doors, dual acting doors, restaurant doors, and kitchen doors. Double acting doors are found in a variety of businesses such as, restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, supermarkets, department stores, warehouses, wholesale produce distributors, seafood processors, hatcheries, and slaughterhouses. The double acting doors are important for businesses because they allow business activities to operate more efficiently while compartmentalizing and separating spaces more effectively.

What this means is, people are able to perform their tasks more easily and more enjoyably, which leads to an increase in production value and a decrease in overhead costs. Dual swing doors are used in lieu of single acting doors because people are regularly traveling with large items, pallet jacks, forklifts, cherry pickers, scissor lifts, and other items or machines that require the use of both hands. This means the employees are able to travel through a space without stopping because they do not need to use their hands to open or close a door that is separating the spaces.

Three main components to dual swing doors

Dual swing doors have three main components in their construction. The core of the door is tempered hardboard. The door is framed with galvanized steel. Followed by an elastomeric spray coating. These three components make the dual swing door extremely durable and functional in all kinds of environments. The elastomeric coating is extremely easy to clean and keep sanitary. A little soap and water will keep all germs, bacteria, and mold at bay. It also does not need to be touched up or reapplied throughout the lifespan of the door. If carts or heavier duty traffic is coming through the door, then bottom protection can be added. Typically, if it is non-motorized traffic, then impact plates are recommended for the bottom portion of the door.

If it is forklift traffic, then tear drop bumpers are typically the optimal choice. If the door is going in a temperature sensitive environment, then it can be insulated and fully gasketed. This will create a complete seal and save on energy costs. The dual swing door is one of the best options on the market for operating a business and keeping areas of work organized and functional. To learn more about supermarket doors, flexible doors, double acting doors or warehouse door options, give us a call at (844) 246-2355.
